The Kennedy Space Center doesn't just have rockets. It shares it's space on the north end of Merritt Island with the Merritt Island Nation Wildlife Refuge. This is 140,000 acres. The refuge has 331 bird species, 31 mammal species, 117 kinds of fish, and 65 species of amphibians and reptiles.

One animal that calls this island home is the American Bald Eagle. There are at least five nests, each occupied by a mating pair and their offspring. You might even see the black racer. It is a nonpoisonous snake. In this refuge there are two subspecies of this snake, the Everglades Racer and the Southern Black Racer. An adult of these snakes can reach up to six feet in length.

You can see all kinds of different species, many being endangered or threatened. For more information click herehere, or here.
